Welcome Sarah!

After a lab rotation earlier this year, Sarah Miller will be joining the McMahon lab! Sarah will be working primarily on the photoperiod project.

To get to know Sarah a little better, we asked her a few questions.

Sarah pets a kangaroo at the Nashville Zoo!

1. Where are you from?

Sarah: I'm from Hatboro, PA (suburb outside of Philadelphia, best known for making hats during the Revolutionary War!)

2. What made you choose Vanderbilt for grad school?

Sarah: I chose Vanderbilt in part because I wanted to explore a different part of the country and also for its wide range of research opportunities and highly collaborative environment.

3. What is a talent / skill you have outside of research?

Sarah: WAY too many hobbies for a graduate student's schedule! I love photography, hiking, playing frisbee and soccer, creative writing/reading, singing and playing the piano

4. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?

Sarah: Favorite ice cream flavor is Cookies & Cream, which I tragically can't eat anymore because of gluten intolerance :(

5. What is your favorite book?

Sarah: (So cruel that you would make me pick just one book!) Probably have to say The Great Gatsby for a classic book and Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro for contemporary fiction

6. What is something you're currently looking forward to?

Sarah: I'm currently looking forward to presenting at my first conference! (tragically missed out during Covid)
